Risography is a digital silkscreen printing technology that functions similarly to an offset printing press. Since its introduction in the 1980’s for medium-high volume photocopying the technology has since been adopted by illustrators, graphic designers, and photographers for the production of limited edition prints and artist’s books in formats up to A3.
Since 2016, Atelier Boba has worked directly with artists using the risographic process. The studio has a selection of uncoated papers adapted to the process made by Olin, Cyclus, and Elementa.
Many different print aesthetics can be achieved on these papers by modulating the machine’s halftoning technique, resolution, as well as registration, layer order, and input methods. These myriad variables offer artists a fertile ground for research and experimentation.
